§ 19-42. Designation of chief building official, assistant building official, chief inspectors, plans examiners and building code inspectors; conflicts of interest.

  • (1)

    The building official, code compliance division, development services department, is hereby designated as the administrative authority responsible for interpretation and enforcement of the provisions of this chapter and the Florida Building Code as it may be amended from time to time.

    (2)

    The administrative authority shall be referred to as the building official and he or she shall be certified as a standard building code administrator in accordance with F.S. ch. 468, pt. XII.

    (3)

    The building official may appoint and/or designate such number of officers, plans examiners, building code inspectors, assistants, and other employees as shall be authorized from time to time to perform the duties of the building official as set forth herein.

    (4)

    All chief inspectors, plans examiners and building code inspectors employed by the department shall be certified in accordance with F.S. ch. 468, pt. XII.

    (5)

    The building official may designate as his assistant building official an employee certified as a standard building code administrator in accordance with F.S. ch. 468, pt. XII, in the department who shall, during the absence or disability of the building official, exercise all powers of the building official.

    (6)

    An officer or employee connected with the department, except 1 whose only connection is as a member of the builders' board of adjustment and appeals, shall not be financially interested in the furnishing of labor, material or appliances for the construction, alteration or maintenance of a building, or in the making of plans or of specifications therefore, unless he is the owner of such building. Such officer or employee shall not engage in any work that is inconsistent with his duties or with the interests of the department.
