§ 24-32. Exemptions.

  • The following types of signs, if such signs are either temporary, or in an industry standard format or standardized format, shall be exempt from the requirement of obtaining a permit subject to the terms and conditions contained herein:

    (a)

    Flags. The flying of flags, limited to a total of 4 in number, provided that such flags shall not be used in such a way as to attract the attention of the public for commercial purposes.

    (b)

    Directional signs, provided, neighborhood identity signs shall require community appearance board approval and applicable engineering permits.

    (c)

    Temporary political signs, as permitted in section 24-128, and special event signs, as permitted in section 24-125.

    (d)

    One nonilluminated residential identity sign, or combination of signs, not exceeding 3 square feet in sign face and not exceeding 4 feet in height if the sign is a fence or freestanding sign; however, duplexes are permitted 2 signs pursuant to this section.

    (e)

    Real estate signs which are designed and installed pursuant to sections 24-76 through 24-79, 24-96 and 24-98.

    (f)

    Any temporary window sign or combination of temporary window signs, the area of which does not exceed 20 percent of the window area, including door windows if any, on which the sign or signs are located.

    (g)

    Vehicle tow-away signs erected pursuant to F.S. § 715.07 and the provisions of this Code.

    (h)

    Temporary seasonal/holiday signs, provided that their removal shall take place within 7 days after the holiday.

    (i)

    A nonilluminated numerical address sign in a business/commercial/industrial/ nonresidentially zoned district, the sign area of which does not exceed 2 square feet per sign face and a maximum aggregate sign area of 4 square feet, not to exceed a height of 10 feet.

    (j)

    One temporary banner identifying a premises in lieu of a permanent flat sign. Such sign shall not exceed 32 square feet in area, shall contain black lettering on a white background or colors consistent with the existing signs, and shall be located at a permissible flat sign location as permitted in section 24-76, et seq., provided a permanent sign application is filed with the city and such temporary banner shall be removed at the time of installation of the approved flat sign or within 7 days of denial, expiration or abandonment of the permit application. No temporary banner shall be displayed beyond 60 days and no more than one temporary banner may ever be installed for any occupancy.

    (k)

    Model home flag banners, as permitted in sections 24-77 through 24-79.
